About
NOLAcon NOLAcon is a RPGA gamming event where people all over the world can come to escape from reality in the form of a living RPGA campaign. NOLAcon came about as there was an absences of a New Orleans based convention since Katrina in 2005. So in 2008 the first annual NOLAcon will take up the sword. We plan to grow this event and build upon each year’s success by adding more and more activities and fantasy fun. Future NOLAcon events will take place the week just following Mardi Gras. However this year the event takes place a little later on February 22 - 24.
How does this work? So you want to play? Here is how it works. There is one book produced by Wizards of the Coast called the Player’s Handbook (PHB). This book can be found in just about any comic book shop, bookstore, or buy it (here) online. This book tells you all the rules for creating and playing a D&D player character. In the end you will have what is known as a character sheet. This sheet has all of your character’s abilities, skills, armor, attacks, etc… that is needed on your adventure. Once you have your character created you are ready to go on an adventure. We can help you with creating a character when you arrive at NOLAcon find a senior Game Master when you arrive onsite and we can get you started.
We will have 8 time slots that games will be played. Each slot will have 9 tables of games going at one time. Each table can hold 6 players. To make sure you get a seat in the game sign-up (here).
From here the Game Master (GM) will guide you in your adventure and after a few rounds you will catch on and will have a great time in a fantasy world.
New Orleans New Orleans is a fun city with lots of cultural nuances that make it a truly unique city. New Orleans is one of the countries true melting pots of cultures as it was once an immigration port just like New York. There are many sites to see and the atmosphere seems to persist that of a party. Come for Mardi Gras and stay for NOLAcon! (New Orleans Site)
Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday is the day before Ash Wednesday. It is the final day of Carnival and it is a celebration that is held just before the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. People from all over the world come down to New Orleans for the fun and excitement of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras 2008 takes place on February 5th. (Mardi Gras Site)
Dungeons & Dragons Dungeons & Dragons is the first role-playing game ever created. It is heroic fantasy. When you play a game of D&D, fairy tales come true, magic is real, and the impossible can happen. Your character can be a knight on horseback, charging across the plains at the terrible dragon that roars in defiance. You can be the dashing rogue, who sneaks into the ball at the palace to steal the princess's heart with a smile. Or you can be the sorceress, who can wield the immense arcane power that can rework the fabric of reality.
In D&D, you and your fellow players form a "party" to go on adventures. Adventures can be most anything that involves a challenge to be overcome. It might be exploring a dangerous cavern, carrying a message from the king to his nobles, or stopping the monster that is terrorizing the common folk. Every adventure is different, so no two games are the same. Adventures can be strung together to form a campaign. The adventures that make up campaigns can be unrelated or part of a vast epic. The choice is up to you and the DM and what sort of game you want. (reference)
